Hi, there! My name is Abby Graves, and I’m the writer and creator behind The Occasions Closet. I was born and raised in a small town in mid-Missouri. After graduating from the University of Missouri in 2010, I made my way to Dallas, Texas, where I currently live with my husband, Mr. AG, and our critters, Truman and Boss.
My personal occasions closet is one of my favorite spaces in our home. It’s a bit of a catch-all, where I store my gifts, wrapping and craft supplies, and of course — random items for any and all seasonal occasions! Shortly after my husband and I got engaged, my mother-in-law sat me down and told me that when she married my father-in-law, she told him she could be good in one room in their house. She jokingly said “he didn’t pick the kitchen.” My husband, who was in the other room at the time, missed the joke but overheard just enough of the conversation to jump in and exclaim “I pick the occasions closet! Abby is already great in there!”
All jokes aside, the idea of domesticity is something I love, but the definition of being domestic continues to shift and evolve. Finding balance between family life and professional life can be challenging. My hope is that The Occasions Closet will be an encouraging and judgement-free place to share ideas for hosting family and friends, hacks to make difficult things simpler, and inspiration for creating a life with just the perfect balance of domesticity.
When I’m not burning cookies or killing plants, I spend my days working for a large communications agency, where I study human behavior and trends, primarily in the social and digital space.
